How To Take Care of Your Trees

On October 10, 2021 by Walter Powell

Trees are gorgeous things that can live for thousands of years. They grow tall and sometimes produce hundreds of pounds of fruit. If you want to see your trees do that well, you’ll need to take care of them. Just like humans, trees need the right amount of attention, nutrients and care to thrive. So, instead of simply planting a tree and sitting back to watch it grow, follow these tips to help it be the best tree possible.

Plant Correctly

When choosing a tree to plant, make sure it’s going to do well in your environment. You might be desperate to grow your own citrus, but your tree won’t do well if you live in a colder climate. Furthermore, it’s essential to know how tall the tree could grow at its biggest. You want to ensure that it has enough space to grow to its largest capacity.

Finally, never plant a tree too close to something else. Whether it’s a house or underground utility lines, it’s important to allow enough space for the tree roots to spread and grow without causing problems.

Prune Yearly

Proper tree trimming Kent is necessary for a tree to be its healthiest. Removing old dead branches or spindly, crooked limbs allows the tree to focus on building a sturdy structure. The trimming will help ensure the tree is stronger and can better withstand potential issues – such as heavy amounts of snow or strong winds.

When pruning, always do the majority of it when the leaves have fallen. You want the tree to be dormant to avoid causing any stress to the tree.

Fertilize Often

You might think to yourself that trees in nature don’t get fertilized, so why do it to the trees in your yard. In nature, leaves and other plant material fall around trees and provide essential nutrients, and homeowners typically remove those nutrients from their yards. Because of that, it’s important to fertilize. Experts recommend fertilizing young trees every year and older trees every two to three years.
