Life throws curveballs, and sometimes that turn is straight to court. Sitting in front of a judge and jury could be nerving, making you feel uncomfortable or lost. Learn how to face the trial and ease your anxiety. What can you do to bolster your case and give you a chance to feel good about the outcome? Focus on your evidence, support systems and appearance. The following are things to do and things to avoid.
What You Should Do
Hire a lawyer: While attorneys cost money, they offer the expertise vital to your ability to win. They understand the law; plus, they may have relationships with the other legal teams, such as the judges and prosecutors. The awareness about personalities and interests could be used to support your case.
Gather Experts: Evidence is essential, and the court responds to expert testimony. Seek out people to support your defense. You might bring doctors or banking litigation support staff to the stand.
Have a Support Team: Rely on friends and family to give you hope. Listen to their feedback, and ask them to come to the court with you. Whoever sits in that room should be levelheaded and respectable.
What You Should Not Do
Respect the courtroom. This is a time to demonstrate courtesy and consideration. With this in mind, do not show up drunk or on drugs. Turn cell phones off and avoid distractions. Give the courtroom your full attention.
Do not let your emotions take over. Outbursts are problematic as they show your worst behavior. These breakouts could make you appear irrational.
Do not bring new relationships to the courtroom because they could be fragile. This event isn’t one you want to expose to new boyfriends or girlfriends.
You may be able to help yourself. The best aid, though, comes from others. Find people who understand your position and can explain your side clearly and professionally.
